Yamaha HPDI and Four-Strokes
Yamaha HPDI and Four-Strokes
Yamaha¿' 2001 product mix includes new High Pressure Direct Injection (HPDI) outboards in a 175-horsepower rating, augmenting the company¿' 150- and 200-hp HPDI line. Unlike carbureted and EFI two-strokes, the fuel enters the cylinder from the top with the exhaust port closed, preventing fuel and oil from being expelled without being burned. Yamaha¿' HPDI delivers this fuel/air mixture at an incredible 700 psi ¿-much higher than competitors¿'90 to 450 psi. Yamaha also uses a radically different injector. Most injectors protrude into the cylinder and eventually suffer from carbon buildup. Yamaha¿' injectors open internally, preventing heat and carbon buildup for a cleaner burn.
Yamaha Motorcycle But Yamaha¿' really revolutionary new product recently won the prestigious Boating Writers International Innovation Award as the best new engine for the year 2000. Despite experts claiming that nobody would ever make a four-stroke bigger than 200 hp, Yamaha has done it with a 225-hp four-stroke. Offshore boats particularly needed higher horsepower than four-stroke could supply. Yamaha answered these challenges. Yamaha, Kennesaw, Georgia; 800-88-YAMAHA; www.yamahausa.com/
