I don't have a GEM motor insurance policy. Can I still make use of
the service Yes. It doesn't matter who you use for motor insurance
- the service is there for you, free of charge, as a GEM member.
The accident was not my fault, could you organise a courtesy car
for me and will I incur any costs We have an arrangement that a
replacement car can be provided by Motor Assist, vehicle
replacement specialists, at no cost to you for the period of repair
or a reasonable period if your vehicle is written off. The cost of
the vehicle will be claimed from the other party or their insurers.
I've had a crash. It was the other guy's fault, but he says it was
my fault. Can you still assist Yes, however the level of assistance
we offer will be determined in the first instance by an initial
assessment of your case and the prospects of success in any claim.
In addition to my replacement car costs and policy excess can I
include a claim for personal injury Yes. GEM members will receive a
full injury compensation recovery service provided by a dedicated
team of advisors.
If the accident was not my fault do I have to use Insurers approved
repairer No, we have a national panel of repairers or you can
nominate a repairer of your choice. In any event we will handle all
aspects of the estimation and repair process on your behalf. Can I
have a like for like replacement car If the accident was not your
fault then we will supply you with a vehicle the same class as your
own, or superior if one of the same class is not available, subject
to the vehicle age/valuation.
If the accident was your fault then courtesy vehicle will be
subject to repairer availability. If a claim is initially declared
non fault will I be liable for any costs should it subsequently be
determined to be my fault. No. If we initially agree & accept a
claim as non fault then provided you have disclosed all material
facts honestly then you will not be subject to any costs. In
addition an insurance policy is automatically effected, free of
charge, which will protect you against any unrecovered hire/repair
costs if authorised by ourselves. Subject to terms and conditions.

About the Club
Originally established in 1932 as the Company of Veteran Motorists
to combat an increasing number of road accidents, GEM Motoring
Assist today remains the leading, driver based road safety
association with around 65, 000 members. All set a good example on
the road by agreeing to drive with care, courtesy and
concentration.
Club members enjoy our free quarterly magazine, Good
Motoring; free road safety, motor legal, technical
and insurance advice; experienced driver assessments; and specially
negotiated discounts on insurances, vehicle inspections, airport
parking and a host of other services.
Since its introduction in 1978, our low cost breakdown cover has
always been popular amongst members. There are now three levels of
cover to choose from, so whether you want simple roadside
assistance or need a more comprehensive service, you can be sure we
have a competitively priced plan to suit your purpose.
Our campaigning and road safety activities are no less important
now than they were when the organisation was founded. Mainly funded
by our Road Safety Charity, recent initiatives have included
pressure for the introduction of new legislation; sponsorship of
award schemes, research and conferences; donation of equipment for
training, assessment and vision screening; and production of road
safety literature.
General Terms of Membership

- You must notify us of any change in your address immediately.
- GEM Motoring Assist reserves the right to refuse membership if you have been disqualified from driving during the past five years.
- You must notify the Secretary immediately if you are disqualified from driving for any reason. GEM Motoring Assist reserves the right to cancel your membership if you are disqualified from driving.
- You may cancel this membership without giving a reason, by writing to us within the first 14 days of membership, or (if later) within 14 days of your receiving the membership documents. This is known as the withdrawal period. If you cancel your membership within the 14-day withdrawal period you will be entitled to a full refund of the subscription paid. If you cancel your policy after the 14-day withdrawal period you will not be entitled to a refund. However, if you have not used our services in the current period of membership, you will be allowed the part of the subscription that you have not used, (provided it is in excess of £5), off any future subscription.
- You may upgrade your membership during the membership year but you must pay the full current annual fee for the difference in cover. The upgraded membership will apply until the current annual membership expires.
- All named members under each membership must reside at the same address.
- A period of 4 months must elapse between a member leaving GEM Motoring Assist and re-joining to benefit from any special offer or promotion. Any application received within this 4 month period will be treated as a renewal and priced accordingly.
- If you do not pay your membership fee in full, we will cancel your membership.
- When you renew your Gem Motoring Assist membership the terms of membership that are current at that time will apply.

- for one night’s hotel accommodation for you and up to 6 passengers. (The amount we will refund will only be for the rooms. We will not pay any amount for meals or drinks.)
- Used for any purpose that the Certificate of Motor Insurance does not allow
- Driven by someone not allowed to drive by the Certificate of Motor Insurance
- Driven by anyone not holding a licence to drive the Vehicle or being disqualified from having such a licence
- We will not provide cover if the vehicle is used airside (see General Exception 2)
- Does not cover any accidental loss, damage, injury or legal liability caused directly or indirectly by war, nuclear risk, pressure waves and wear and tear, depreciation, mildew, insects, vermin, inherent vice, inherent nature, mechanical, electronic or electrical breakdown or derangement exclusion (See General Exception 3)

Please note that your breakdown policy only covers you for up to 6 breakdowns per period of insurance. Comprehensive policy or your vehicle is over 8 years old, then Breakdown Recovery Cover is only available as an optional extra at a cost of 9.90 and is not automatically included. This is only available at inception or renewal. Can I remove the breakdown recovery cover to get a cheaper quote
